Metallurgica San Marco more and more 4.0 with the new Automated Guided Vehicles

Metallurgica San Marco increasingly speaks the language of automation in the Industry 4.0 perspective, and does so with a new and avant-garde system for the handling, storage and pickling of brass coils through AGV (Automated Guided Vehicles), with the aim of moving the material starting from the extrusion press department, until the delivery of the coils to the drawing machines of the finishing department.

The system, fully integrated with the company management software that supervises and establishes orders and priorities for the delivery of the finished product, is based on robot vehicles, the AGVs, able to move autonomously, without human intervention, executing precise trajectories, respecting paths and precedence, minimizing the time required for the picking and delivery of the product. Each AGV, monitored by a supervision system and interfaced by HMI (Human Machine Interface), is always in communication with the control unit which, through complex calculation algorithms, establishes and monitors every single command. The use of sensors and components of a superior class ensures operation in compliance with the most stringent safety regulations.

An integral part of the system is the automatic pickling system (a specific surface treatment for the company’s products), which is also completely autonomous, i.e. able to operate without any human intervention.

The plant in its entirety will guarantee higher quality, both in the intermediate products and in the finished product, thanks to the constancy and repeatability of each single phase of the production process; furthermore it will allow a more complete and reliable product traceability.
